Bios for Board Nominees

Garden Hills Pool & Park Association (GHPPA) Board of Director Elections are open from Saturday, September 1st to Sunday, September 9th at 2pm. Each GHPPA Member may cast one ballot upon which they can vote for up to 15 different nominees for the Board of Directors. Ballots are available at the check-in desk at the Garden Hills Pool House during regular operating hours.
 
The 15 nominees with the most votes are elected to the Board of Directors. Officers are appointed from the elected Board members and must have served on the Board for at least one year prior to becoming an officer.
 
Each nominee for the Board of Directors was asked to provide a biography not exceeding 100 words describing their qualifications to participate on the GHPPA Board of Directors. The following is the information that was provided:
 

Aimee Smith Aimee Murdock Smith is a long time city of Atlanta resident who is actively involved in the Garden Hills Pool and has served on the Board since 2011. She has over 20 years of Marketing and Human Resource experience. Aimee has served on the boards of FIRST robotics, Relay for Life and volunteered with over 30 organizations. Aimee is a graduate of the University of Georgia and works in Human Resources for Wesley Woods Senior Living. Aimee is married to an HR consultant and her daughters attend Atlanta Public Schools. 2017-18 Board Member
Jonathan Abshire Jonathan grew up around a pool as a member of Dynamo Swim Club in High School and then swimming for Emory in college. College summers were spent coaching the local summer league team as well as lifeguarding. Jonathan and his wife Jennifer moved into Peachtree Park in 2012 after 4 years abroad in Amsterdam. His family has been members of the Garden Hills Pool since returning and he has enjoyed swimming on the Adult Swim Team every summer. Jonathan spends his days as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager for Voya Investment Management and his nights with his growing family of 3 young children. 2017-18 Board Member
Jack Alexander Jack and his family have been members of the pool since 1989, and his 4 children, Sandy, Tom, Nick and Grace were all involved with managing the pool for many years. Since 1999, he has served on the pool board in several capacities, including President, 4 years as Treasurer, a term as Vice President and 8 years as coordinator of the Adult Swim team. Jack and his wife, Deirdra, thoroughly enjoy the pool and competing with the GHP Adult Team. Jack is currently a Sales and Marketing Manager with Mighty Distributing Systems. 2017-18 Board Member, President
Tami Jordan Brook Tami Brook has lived in Garden Hills since the spring of 2003. She has been a member of the pool since 2004. She is a French teacher at The Westminster Schools. Also, she is a longstanding member of the Garden Hills Garden Club and is a past president and a past chairwoman of the Ice Cream Social. Tami is currently serving on the Communications Committee and chairing the Social Committee of the Garden Hills Pool & Park Association Board. She has been creating the Splash newsletters for the past few years. 2017-18 Board Member
Jeff Clark Jeff Clark has lived in Garden Hills since the fall of 2008. He has three children, ages 16, 14 & 11 all of whom attend Atlanta International School. His oldest daughter is a Lifeguard and Jeff was the lead on the construction of the new pool house. He is COO at brrrº, a fabric technology startup. Jeff is a past President & Treasurer of the Garden Hills Pool & Park Association. He also serves on the boards of the Garden Hills Neighborhood Foundation and Garden Hills Civic Association. 2017-18 Board Member
Dave Fedewa Dave and his family have lived in Garden Hills since 2010. He and his wife and kids have been active with the Cool Sharks for the last 3 years and are regulars at the pool, park, and playground. Dave earned his undergrad and masters in engineering, and recently joined Home Depot after 15 years at McKinsey & Co. 2017-18 Board Member
Donna Fialkowski Donna was active in leadership roles for the Cool Sharks swim team from 2008-2015, working as the volunteer coordinator and team representative. Now, she coordinates neighborhood parking and the shuttle system for swim meets. She also schedules and monitors the camps that visit our pool. This past year, she has focused more on organization and cleanliness of bathrooms and the concession stand by helping employees develop checklists and routines. She is an active member of the GHGC and has been an ICS chair for two years. She will co-chair this event again in the fall. Donna lives in the neighborhood with her husband and three children and enjoys her career as a special education pre-k teacher. 2017-18 Board Member
Tom Hawker Tom grew up in Charleston, West Virginia where he was active in summer and year-round swim programs. At Wake Forest University, he enjoyed intramural sports, including water polo and, during the summer, he served as an assistant swim coach for a local pool back in Charleston. Tom and his wife Reagan have lived in Loring Heights since 1999 and have been members of Garden Hills Pool for several years. Their son Christian, now 8, is a member of the Garden Hills swim team, and Tom swims for the adult team. Tom has been a trial lawyer in Atlanta for the past 20 years. 2017-18 Board Member
Matt Herndon Matt was born in Atlanta and moved to Garden Hills with his wife Linda in 2007. Their two young girls are active and enthusiastic for the Cool Sharks Swim Team, noting that Matt’s Mother also learned to swim in the same Garden Hills Pool over 60 years ago. Matt holds a CPA license and provides accounting leadership to mid-sized companies. 2017-18 Board Member
Dave Kirshtein Dave and his family Kim, Erin, and Eli moved into the neighborhood in 1985. In addition to being active with the Cool Sharks in their early years, Dave has a strong history with GHPPA, having done long stints as both President and Treasurer of the organization. He was heavily involved in major pool projects like the expansion of the pool’s deep end and was instrumental in rebuilding the Recreation Center after it burned down in 1999. Dave has earned his CPA and MBA in finance, managed forensic auditing operations for an international insurance group, and now heads Kirshtein Analytics, LLC. 2017-18 Board Member
Dan Moriarty Dan Moriarty moved to Atlanta from the Washington DC area in 1990 and moved to Garden Hills in November 2003. His wife Heidi and three boys have been members of Garden Hills Pool since 2004. In his late teens and early 20s, he managed a neighborhood pool in McLean, VA, the Hamlet Swim Club, overseeing staffing, swim lessons, and pool maintenance. His boys Jack, Kevin and Will are members of the GHP swim team, and Dan competes with the GHP masters team. He holds a BA and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Virginia. His professional background is in marketing and sales with the Walt Disney Company, Turner Broadcasting, and Comcast. 2017-18 Board Member
Kirsten Neufeld Kirsten and her husband Bob moved to Garden Hills in 2001. They both compete with the Garden Hills Adult Team, reliving their youth and continuing with the sport that brought them together in the first place, almost 20 years ago! Their daughters are 13 and 11, and have been on the Cool Sharks Swim Team since they were each 5 years old. Kirsten is the current Volunteer Coordinator for the team. The pool is her “happy place,” and she counts down the days until the pool opens each summer! Kirsten is active in the Garden Hills Garden Club, serving as Ice Cream Social Chair with Donna Fialkowski for several years, and is now working in collaboration with the Civic Association delivering New Neighbor Welcome Bags to newcomers in our neighborhood. She also teaches afterschool art at Garden Hills Elementary with the ArtsCool program.
Sarah Seidentopf Sarah joined a swim team at age 7 and never looked back. She has spent many years with chlorine in her hair and looks forward to many more. She and her husband, Walt, are enthusiastic members of the GHP Adult Swim Team. Sarah owns a boutique law firm that focuses on estate planning and probate. She is an active member of the Atlanta Bar Association and is chair of the Elder Law Section and a board member of the Women in the Profession Section. She also volunteers by taking cases through the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
Margaret Stewart Originally a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Margaret has lived in Garden Hills since 2006. She and her husband, Ian, have been members of the pool now for 7 years. They, along with their two boys, spend large portions of their summers swimming and diving at the Garden Hills pool. Margaret is the Cool Sharks Dive Team Mom. Margaret is President of the Garden Hills Garden Club. Margaret has worked primarily in the professional services industry working at both Sapient and Price Waterhouse Coopers. 2017-18 Board Member
James Tomko I have lived in Garden Hills across from the pool for 15 years! My family has enjoyed a membership every year since.  I have been on the GHPPA Pool Board for the last 4 years. In addition,  I served two years on the GHCA.  I spent every summer from age 13 to 21 as a lifeguard at pools and beaches. In addition, I swam competitively during the same period. My kids have enjoyed participating in the GHPPA swim team. 2017-18 Board Member
